History Of Andaman Islands

The Andaman Islands have a rich and fascinating history dating back thousands of years. These beautiful islands were originally inhabited by indigenous tribes including Great Andamanese, Jarawa, Onge and Sentinelese tribes.

Ancient travelers and traders passed these islands through important sea routes across the Bay of Bengal.

During British rule, the Andaman Islands became famous because of Cellular Jail, commonly called Kala Pani. Many Indian freedom fighters were imprisoned here and suffered hardships during India's struggle for independence.

Today the Cellular Jail remains a symbol of courage and sacrifice and attracts visitors from around the world.

Modern Andaman Islands have developed into one of India's most famous tourist destinations because of beaches, marine life, adventure activities and historical significance.
